OPTION THREE: Download iZip from the App Store. This is a free app that allows you to extract the files from a zip archive, which makes the contents available for editing and sharing. Here’s how to get it:
Open the Files app on your iPhone. It’s the blue folder icon typically found on the home screen.
Go to the folder that contains the Zip file. The free version of iZip will only unzip files that are saved to your iPhone or iPad—if you try to unzip a file on a cloud server like Dropbox, you’ll be prompted to upgrade to the paid version.
Tap and hold the Zip file. A black menu strip will appear.
Tap Share. This opens the sharing menu.
Tap Save to Files. Several locations will appear.
Tap the arrow next to “On My iPhone.” This displays the iZip folder.
If you already see the iZip folder, there’s no need to tap the arrow.
Select the iZip folder. This highlights the folder.
Tap Add. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. Now the file will be available in iZip.
Return to the home screen and open iZip. It’s the icon with a yellow folder that has a zipper.
Tap Files. It’s at the top of the screen. This displays a list of files saved to iZip.
Tap the Zip file you want to extract. A pop-up message will appear.
Tap OK. The files inside the Zip are now extracted to the current folder.
Tap a file to open it. You’ll be prompted to choose what you want to do with it, such as open it in a specific app or share it with others.
